It’s spooky season. Halloween has taken hold. But what’s really scary to me is how many people are not living the best, most vibrant life they could be. Forget Freddy and Jason, seeing people struggle with poor choices affecting their health is truly scary. Now I know that this is the time of year when candy is in our faces 24/7, making it extra hard for us to resist our urges and indulge. If you have trouble with the sugary sweets and you turn into a candy goblin, i’m here to give you a few tips from a Personal Trainer and Nutritionist in Westfield, NJ… so this halloween doesn’t ruin your hard work.
Tip #1
If you have young kids who still love trick or treating, that’s a plus. Use this as a way to get out of the house and get some exercise. Take a stroll around the neighborhood and get the blood flowing. Walking is a great way to burn a few extra calories and while it may not be enough to undo any candy damage, it will help mitigate some of said damage. Extra points if you have to carry your kids or wheel them around in a wagon or stroller.
Tip #2
Enjoy a corn maze. If you’re like me then your ability to navigate a maze is exceptionally bad. While normally this is a bad thing, you can use this to your advantage and get some exercise. Getting lost in a corn maze is a great way to keep yourself active for quite a while, burning more and more calories. Afterwards you may have earned yourself a treat. Just don’t overdo it.
Tip #3
Pick a costume that shows off your hard work. Going to the gym should be a staple for everyone but to make sure you put in the hard work, picking a costume that shows it off is a good motivator to push yourself a little harder. You know the saying, “Sun’s out, Guns out!”
Tip #4
Go apple and/or pumpkin picking. This is another fun way to get moving while enjoying a nice fitness activity. Walking around an orchard or patch picking apples, filling your basket with more and more as it gets heavier or picking up and carrying around the biggest pumpkin you can find is a good bit of fun and exercise.
Tip #5
Have someone dress as a ghost and scare you everytime you reach for some candy… okay im just kidding about this one… or am I? LOL
These are a few things to help you navigate the scariest time of year(other than tax season). Just remember not to go crazy, but enjoy yourself. Halloween is an incredibly fun time of year, just don’t get lost in all its sugary goodness. Happy Halloween everyone!
