Get ready for the (un)scientific proof of how chewing gum can help you lose (or not gain) weight this holiday season.Ok, so the Holiday Season is upon us. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, or whatever, most of our celebrations are centered in a coming together of friends and families… and that means we EAT!How in the world are we expected to survive the holiday season without the obligatory 10+ lb weight gain? The experts tell us to “eat this, not that,” do 10 situps between each bite of food (you’ve got to be kidding me), or drinking a couple of glasses of water before your meal. Sure, these will work. But what if you don’t have a choice to eat healthier versions of food? There’s no way I’m doing sit ups between each bite like some freak. The water could work, but for me it’s not about feeling full, it’s about social eating. You know social eating. Everyone does it. We dip our hands in the mixed nuts, pick at the chips and salsa, or linger around the adult beverage section. So what’s a person to do? Chew some gum.Chewing gum gives me the same gratification of social eating from a physical movement point of view (mostly the chewing part because it mimics eating) and it also prevents me from putting food in my mouth because I just don’t like the flavor or texture of cookies mixed with my minty gum. Did it as a kid and avoided it ever since. Blech! So, as long as I’m chewing gum I’m less likely to eat the extra food that I clearly don’t need and it does so without making me feel like I’m denying myself. Why not give it a shot yourself?Go ahead, give it a whirl. Feel free to leave a short comment and let our readers know how it goes. Like this post? Click the “Like” button and Follow Us. 🙂
