WEIGHT LOSS AND HORMONE IMBALANCE
We all know that every calorie we eat needs to be burned off… one way or another. But is the Calories In < Calories Out equation the only criteria for weight loss?
Time and time again I hear the same thing, “I’m doing everything right, yet I still can’t seem to lose these last 5 lbs.”
If you’re over 40 and feel the same way, then just know you’re not alone.
The main reason we tend to hold on to more weight as we get older? Hormones.
That’s right. Hormones.
Testosterone and Estrogen are the main sex hormones in men and women, respectively. Each of these hormones play a key role in balancing many of our bodies’ inner processes from brain function to libido and energy levels to fat storage. When we are young these hormones are integral to our physical growth and development, reproductive health and metabolism. They influence so much of our development that it would be impossible to imagine life without them. But, as important as these two hormones are, they are often left to fend for themselves without any help from us. And they decline slowly over time. Slowly, that is, until we hit our 40’s,
As we get older men experience a sharp decline in the hormone testosterone and women see the same reduction in estrogen. There’s a point in our 40’s when these two hormones fall right off the cliff!
If all this sounds hopeless, then perk up! There is something you can do about it. Studies show that resistance training (lifting weights) can dramatically improve and prevent declining estrogen and testosterone levels. Also, following a proper nutrition plan can also have a big impact on boosting these hormones.
The net effect?
- More Energy
- Decreased Body Fat Storage
- More Tight, Toned Muscle
- Better Strength and Stamina
- Improved Libido
… and much more
